Black Carpet Beetles in Anaheim

Black carpet beetles are found across the United States and are considered the most destructive species of carpet beetle in Anaheim. They primarily feed on keratin, which is found in feathers and animal hair, which may cause them to eat things like clothing or paintings – or, as their name suggests, carpet. These beetles may also consume other materials such as grains, synthetic fabrics, and dead insects. They’ve even been known to eat through entire dried insect collections.

Black Carpet Beetle Habitat

Though black carpet beetles are a big threat indoors, they often live outside. Females will use abandoned spider webs, bird nests, or wasp nests as shelter for their eggs. These locations are perfect for reproducing because they contain debris such as dead insects, pollen, feathers, or beeswax that the beetle larvae can feed on. Particularly in the springtime, though, black carpet beetles may find their way inside. They’re usually carried indoors accidentally on old woolen products, carpeting, or stored products such as dried pet food.

Black Carpet Beetle Behaviors, Threats, or Dangers

Black carpet beetles are not considered a danger to human health, but they can cause a lot of damage to our personal belongings. These pests are scavengers that will feed on everything from pantry items to clothing, upholstery, and carpets. An infestation could also be a sign that there are a lot of dead insects nearby, which is why black carpet beetles are also commonly found in basements or crawl spaces. Unfortunately, since these beetles are so persistent and versatile, it can be challenging to get rid of them once they’ve invaded your space. To protect your belongings from their appetite, it’s best to contact your local beetle exterminators for fast removal and long-term protection.
